Neighborhoods throughout Virginia Beach are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “32st Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.  NNO will involve over 16,000 communities an over 37 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’.  National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships

So, lock your doors, turn on outside lights, and come spend the evening outside with neighbors, police, fire fighters and other public safety experts.

VBPD Crime Prevention Unit: will discuss crime & drug prevention tips, and give information on crime and drug trends in our neighborhoods and surrounding areas.  A Police Officer and cruiser will be present along with handouts and give-a-ways.

The Fire Department: will do a presentation on fire safety and have an “on call” fire engine on site.  Handouts and give -a-ways will be available.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney: will be on hand to discuss internet safety with children and to pass out free software to families.

The VA State Police: will have a Police Officer and cruiser present along with handouts and give-a-ways.

The Masonic Child Identification Program (CHIP):  will allow parents to create a kit for identifying their child, free of charge.

Hotdogs, chips, and drinks will be provided.

We are asking Civic League and LSRC members to donate dessert for the night.

We will end our evening with a Neighborhood walk through Larkspur and back with flashlights and glow sticks.  Come on out and support this effort to keep our neighborhoods safe.
